Things You'll Need:
- Spark plug tester
- Fuel line disconnect tool
-
Step 1
Check the weather first to see if you have Vapor Lock or ice in your fuel tank. When the temperature is below 30 degrees, adding de-icer in the gas tank may help your car start. In heat above 80 degrees, pouring cool water on the fuel pump and the fuel lines may do the trick.
-
Step 2
Make sure your vehicle is parked on a level surface and that it has enough gas. When your car is at an angle, the fuel injector may be pulling in air instead of gas. Level your car out, add some gas to the tank, and try starting the vehicle again.
-
Step 3
Test to see if it is a spark plug issue. This can only be done if you have a spark tester, but once you connect a spark plug to the tester, and turn the car on, you should see a spark in the gap. If no spark appears, you should replace all of your spark plugs. A spark plug tester can be found at any auto part store.
-
Step 4
Unhook the fuel line, place it in a container, and crank the engine. If you see fuel come out of the line, that is supposed to happen. If you do not see any fuel, you need to have the fuel pump tested and possibly replaced. If you are unable to perform this task safely, it is best to take the vehicle to a mechanic.

Step 5
Look over all of your rubber fuel hoses. Remove them, squeeze them for soft of brittle spots, and replace the hoses if any of them have either of these problems.
