How to Replace the Throttle Body in a Nissan Pathfinder
Some SUVs appeal to "car people," while others speak to "truck people." Nissan's Pathfinder is one of the very few that appeals to both. When it made its debut, the Pathfinder boasted more truck-like qualities: a sturdy body, angular stying, and real off-road capablities when in four-wheel drive. Considered a jack-of-all-trades, Nissan's Pathfinder is a popular midsize SUV choice. Follow these do-it-yourself instructions for replacing the throttle body.
Things You'll Need
- Mechanic's toolset, including a full socket set, wrenches, screwdrivers
- Torque wrench
- Clean shop cloths
- Plastic scraper
- Replacement gasket

Remove the Throttle Body
-
1
Make sure the engine and all components are completely cool. Disconnect the battery ground. Then isolate it to avoid accidental contact with the terminal while installing the throttle body.
-
2
Disconnect the accelerator cable. Label all vacuum hoes, brackets, cables and electrical connections along with their insertion points. Disconnect the hoses, brackets, cables and connectors, including the throttle position sensor electrical connector.
-
-
3
Loosen the fasteners that hold the throttle body assembly in place. Remove the fasteners and lift the throttle body off the engine. Place a clean shop cloth over the opening to prevent debris from falling into the engine.
-
4
Clean the gasket surfaces so that they are free of old gasket material, carbon deposits and dirt. Take care not to damage the surfaces with sharp objects. Use a plastic scraper as needed.
Install the Throttle Body
-
5
Set a new gasket in the throttle body and then position the throttle body assembly on the manifold. Torque the fasteners to 14 foot pounds.
-
6
Reconnect the throttle position sensor electrical connector. Connect all the hoses, cables, connectors and brackets that were labeled and removed earlier.
-
7
Attach the throttle cable. Connect the battery ground cable to the terminal and tighten the bolt. Start the engine. Test for leaks and make any necessary adjustments.
