Instructions

  1. Remove the Throttle Body

    • 1

Disconnect both battery cables. Take the battery from under the hood.

    • 2

Relieve the pressure in the fuel system, even if the vehicle is cold. Drain the coolant from the engine and store it in a sealable container.

    • 3

Note the location of the accelerator cable mounting flange adjuster bolt with a matchmark to insure re-installation to the original orientation. Loosen and remove the throttle cable adjusting bolt and then disconnect the cable from the level on the throttle body. Push the cable to the side.

    • 4

Take out the connection for both the breather hose and the air intake hose on the throttle body. Label and then disconnect the vacuum hoses as needed.

    • 5

Tag the electrical connectors that run to the throttle body, then detach them. Disconnect the hoses for the water and the water-bypass from the base of the throttle body.

    • 6

Remove the air fitting and the gasket, then remove the mounting bolts from the throttle body. Lift the throttle body off the engine. Discard the gasket.

    Install the Throttle Body

    • 7

Clean the throttle body mounting surfaces thoroughly to remove any gasket material and dirt. Fit a new gasket onto the intake manifold. Make sure the gasket is properly aligned.

    • 8

Set the throttle body on the intake manifold and tighten the mounting bolts. Put a new gasket in the air fitting and install it.

    • 9

Install the stay for the throttle body and the ground plate. Torque the fasteners to 11 to 16 foot pounds. Secure the ground plate mounting screw in position.

    • 10

Reconnect the water hoses with new clamps as needed. Attach all the electrical and vacuum connectors in reverse order of their earlier removal.

    • 11

Attach the accelerator cable and set the adjusting bolt in the original position. Replace the hoses for the air intake and breather.

    • 12

Install the battery and attach the positive cable to the terminal. Connect the battery ground cable. Fill the cooling system with the correct type, mix and amount of coolant.

    • 13

Start the engine. Test for leaks and make the necessary adjustments.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place a clean shop cloth over the opening to the manifold to prevent dirt from falling into the engine.

  • Keep in mind that dogs and cats are attracted to and will drink coolant left in open containers or puddled on the floor. Ingestion is often fatal.
