Step 1
Determine How Much Work is Needed. The first step would be to visit your dentist for a checkup. At the checkup, your doctor can estimate how much work needs to be done to your teeth and how much the dental care will cost in total. Often times, a dentist will use a particular financing company that provides his or her clients with loans for dental work. You can inquire about this while you’re there as well. Have your dentist draft up a document detailing what sort of dental care is needed and the total price of the procedures.
-
Step 2
Ask your dentist for financing. If your dentist works with a bank or financing company, you may want to go this route. Often times, you can get bigger discounts, lower interest rates and may even be able to get financed with average or poor credit if you work with the dentist’s financing company. Your dentist or the financing company can explain the procedures in obtaining a dental loan this way.
-
Step 3
If no financing available, find alternatives. If the dentist does not provide financing, you will need to find another method of obtaining a dental loan to get your teeth fixed. For instance, visit your own personal bank and inquire about a personal loan for dental work. You may need to have collateral if your credit is poor or average. However, if you have a good history of payment on loans and a low debt to income ratio – you may get the loan regardless of your credit rating. If you have an excellent credit rating, chances are you will be approved for a loan.
-
Step 4
Shop Around
There are probably several different dentists and finance companies or banks in your hometown. By shopping around, you can get the best possible rate for your loan and price for your dental care. Do a little research and determine which dentist and finance company you want to go with. By shopping around, you can save money in the long run. -
Step 5
Consider a Co-Signer if you have bad credit. There is also a possibility that you will need a co-signer for the loan. Finance companies and banks will ask for a co-signer sometimes if the applicant’s credit is not good enough to obtain the loan. A co-signer uses his or her good credit rating to ‘vouch’ for the applicant and the co-signer will also agree to make the payments if for some reason the applicant is unable to.
-
Step 6
By using these 5 steps, you can obtain a dental loan to get your teeth fixed. Not only will you feel better physically and have better confidence, but by paying the loan payments on time every month, you can build your credit! Good luck.
