Instructions

    • 1

Gather the supplies you'll need. Use a colored glass container, since sunlight can diminish the scent in a clear glass bottle. Choose the essential oils you want to use. In a perfume or cologne, fragrances are represented by base, middle and top notes, with the base notes being heavier, muskier scents and tops notes being light, airy scents. Choose a base note, middle note and top note that complement each other for your special blend. Good base notes include vanilla, patchouli, amber and sandalwood. Rose, jasmine, pine and rosemary all make good middle notes. Choose from oils like bergamot, lemongrass, orange blossom and peppermint for the top note.

    • 2

Use a dropper to create a mixture of the oils you've chosen in the glass bottle. Start with a few drops of each note, and continue adding until you get your desired scent. You want a total of 20 to 40 drops in all. After each couple of drops, smell the mixture. Smelling coffee beans in between each sniff test will clear your nose and refresh your smelling abilities.

    • 3

Add 2 1/2 oz. of vodka to the mixture of essential oils. Stir in the vodka slowly until the oils are evenly dissolved. Let the new mixture sit for at least two days to let the scent mature.

    • 4

Slowly add 1 tbsp. of distilled water to the mixture. Stir it in until it is completely dissolved. Let the new mixture sit for two more days to achieve maximum potency. Put a portion of the mixture in an atomizer or mini spray bottle and dilute with additional distilled water to use as a body spray.

Tips & Warnings

  • Write down the amount and names of essential oils you add to replicate the perfume or alter it the next time.
