Things You'll Need:
- An open mind
-
Step 1
No matter how much you have on your plate. Learn that you can only do things one at a time. If you try to focus your attention everywhere at once, you are left with a fragmented mind that will eventually give birth to frustration and even more stress. The skill lies in prioritizing what needs to be done first and letting the things that can wait, wait. Remember it is terribly egotistical to believe you can do it all by yourself, look at your resources and delegate work if you can. Stress is often caused by believing you have to do it all alone.
-
Step 2
Stop worrying about the things you can not control. When you spend time worrying about things that are out of your reach or command you waste time taking action to get the things you need done, done.
-
Step 3
Stop identifying your existence at work with who you are as a person. A job is the role you play to get the bills paid. Don’t play that work role when you’re at home or at play. If you don’t learn to turn off that persona, what you are really saying is without my job I am nothing. The secret to relieving stress is the ability to let go and stop being so attached and obsessive regarding work.
-
Step 4
If you spend all your time stressing you can’t spend that time enjoying what you do. No matter what you do for a living, find a way to make it a game and you’ll realize how revitalizing it is to play. If you’re effective at doing this you will realize that work will become play and stress will change to challenge or an opportunity to grow.
