Write down a list of everything you need to organize in your home.

Transforming from a slob to an organized person does take some work, since this change involves specific action along with breaking old habits. You can do this by making a consistent effort, sticking to the plan and totally changing your mindset. Making big changes in your life becomes vital because many factors may have contributed to you becoming a slob. For instance, if you have little time or feel tired because of an illness, this can drag you down and make it difficult to keep up with life's demands, let alone keep a house organized. Instructions

Organize one room of your house each week, continually moving to a new room as each new week goes by. It takes time to get organized if you're a slob because it's impossible to tackle such a job overnight. Many really disorganized people have way too much stuff, so it can take days just to sort through one room. That's OK. After the initial work of the first few weeks, doing each room will take less and less time. Start with your bedroom and move your way through the house until the job is done. Then start over, straightening the rooms you've organized.

Hang up as many clothes as possible in your closet, and separate your clothing according to garment types. For instance, place all blouses next to each other in one area and put suit coats or dress pants in another area of the closet. Place a dresser in your closet if you have extra room in the closet but not a lot of space in the bedroom. Fold and put away all clothing you wear continually in dresser drawers, also. Store excess clothing that you don't wear in plastic bins and keep them in the garage, or store a few in the closet if you have extra room.

Throw away or give away items you don't use. Excess stuff just creates messes and stacks throughout your house, and makes it difficult to stay organized. Store precious items that you want to keep, but don't use plastic bins, and keep them in a closet or in the garage. It's okay to have a few decor pieces in your home, but don't overdo it. It only creates clutter.

Place a small garbage can or waste basket in each room. "Women's Day" magazine recommends doing this. It helps keep your house clean and prevent new messes. Empty waste baskets into your main garbage can continually throughout the week.

    • 5

Write down a daily cleaning routine once you have organized your entire house. This can help prevent you from being a slob and letting things go again. A daily routine can include 10 minutes cleaning the bathrooms, 10 minutes for doing laundry and 10 minutes for kitchen duties. Spend more time deep cleaning your house again once per week and stick to this routine.

Keep your house organized by continually putting things where they belong and cleaning up messes right away.
