Things You'll Need:
- Plastic pot.
- Sphagnum moss.
- Soil.
- Large saucer.
- Water; either distilled or rain.
- Flourescent lights.
- A sunny spot.
- Greenhouse if you've got one.
-
Step 1
Your plastic pot is best if it is around seven or eight inches in diameter. Take the plastic pot and put in that sphagnum moss so that it covers up the holes at the bottom of the plastic pot. Then fill the pot in with soil. The ideal combination is about half moss and half soil, with the soil in turn being a combination of sand and peat moss.
-
Step 2
Place the pot onto that large saucer. The saucer is used only because it makes watering the Venus Flytrap less messy. Try to keep about an inch of water in the pot until it evaporates away. Distilled water is better because Venus needs nutrients. Even better is rainwater.
-
Step 3
Take the Venus Flytrap pot and saucer and find a sunny spot in your house to keep it. The idea amount of time for a Flytrap to receive direct sunlight is about five hours a day.
-
Step 4
If you plan on moving your Venus Flytrap into a terrarium, invest in some fluorescent lights and place them about eight inches above the tank. A terrarium is also ideal for the winter months in which a Venus Flytrap is in its dormant phase.
