write your own Business Plan

You don't need to pay thousands of dollars for a good, solid business plan. You can write your own business plan and here's how you do it.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first thing you want to do is figure out what your start-up cost will be. Everything, and anything you need for your business, from your desk, to your computer, to pencils, pens, computer software, hardware, etc., should be listed as part of your start-up expenses. Don't leave anything out.

  2. Step 2

Budget and Forecasting is crucial. Make sure that the revenues and expenses in your budget coincide. Your budget and forecasting need to be as precise as possible. Determine your expenditures (what you're paying out) and revenues (money you're receiving) which will be vital to the overall success of your business plan.

This is where Microsoft Excel comes in handy because it offers free budgeting templates to assist you in setting up your essential business financials.

  3. Step 3

Put together a thorough Competitive Analysis in order to determine the strengths and weaknesses of your competitors. This is a crucial element of your bp because it will help you tweak and fine tune your strategy. If your competitors are doing something positive and productive, and you feel it would benefit your business, it won't hurt, nor is it illegal to mirror what they are doing. You just have to be creative. You'll also be able to recognize the mistakes of your competition thus allowing you to avoid the financial land mines they may have encountered.

  4. Step 4

Once your business plan is complete, you can pitch the plan yourself. Snail mail, and email your business plan to the organizations that you would like to assist you. Again, this is something YOU can do for yourself. The entrepreneurs that you come in contact with will be impressed by your immense desire to succeed and you'll be surprised at what you accomplish.
