Things You'll Need:
- Smoothing shampoo and conditioner
- Smoothing serum
- Hair Clips
- Hairdryer and round brush
- Flat Iron
-
Step 1
First, wash and condition your hair with products that contain ingredients to smooth out the hair. I like Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight, Pin Straight Shampoo and conditioner.
-
Step 2
Next, towel dry hair and apply a smoothing serum. I like the new Nexxus Sleek Memory Straightening Smoothing Spray. It helps your hair become straighter, smoother, and less frizzy over time, so your straightening routine becomes faster and easier, and hair spends less time exposed to damaging heat styling. This straightening technology works with your heat appliances to "train" hair to remember your straight, sleek style each time you straighten it. Scientifically-proven heat protection guards against heat damage.
-
Step 3
Next, clip hair up into about 6 sections. Starting in the back, blow dry each section one at a time with a round brush. Point the dryer facing down the whole time, pulling the brush through the hair from root to tip. The more taut you keep the hair, and the tighter you pull, the smoother it will get. The best brush to use would be one that has natural boar bristles and a ceramic core which holds heat and helps the straightening process.
-
Step 4
Next, clip each section up again, and run a flat iron over the hair to smooth it even further. This will make the smoothness last until your next shampoo and also prevent frizz. Choose a flat iron with tourmaline ceramic technology, which is less damaging to your hair. They are a little more expensive than regular flat irons, but they are more effective, heat up extremely fast, and again, are much less damaging. My recommendation is the Bespoke Labs Narrow Wet-to-dry iron.(Sephora.com) You can use it on dry hair, but if you're short on time, you can use it on wet hair instead of blowdrying! It works extremely well on wet hair. The only difference is that using a hairdryer first gives the hair a little more body and bounce, whereas using the iron on wet hair gives you a sleeker look. Either method will get your hair very straight, it just depends on what look you're going for.
-
Step 5
Finally, smooth an anti-frizz, anti-humidity cream such as Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Anti-Humidity Styling Cream (drugstore.com) over the hair, concentrating on the ends and working your way up. Your hair should stay smooth and straight until the next time you shampoo!
