One of my son favorite things to do is making popcorn balls for his classmates when they have a party. Since he is very picky with eating fresh fruits, I sneak in some dried fruits with the popcorn balls.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of apple juice or water
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of light corn syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 9-10 cups of popped popcorn, no kernels
  • 2 cups of raisins, or dried apricots, dices
  1. Step 1

Combine brown sugar, apple juice, butter, corn syrup, and salt in a 2-3 quart saucepan.

Boil over medium heat for 5 to 6 minutes, or until thickened.

  2. Step 2

Buttered a large bowl, place popcorn, diced apricot pieces or raisins in it. I used both raisin and apricot!

Slowly drizzle the hot sugar mixture over them, and quickly stir with a spatula.

  3. Step 3

Have your child butter their hands, and allow them to shape the popcorn into balls.

Wrap the popcorn balls in cellophane, and make it a great treat to pass out at parties.

  4. Step 4

The above recipe will make 12 popcorn balls. You will have to double or triple the ingredients to make enough for a class room full of children!

After wrapping the popcorn balls in cellophane, add a little ribbon to make it look pretty!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also use chocolate chips, nuts, or other dried fruits
  • Drizzle melted chocolate over the popcorn balls if you want to be fancy
  • Marshmallow is another alternative
  • Some children are allergic to nuts, so omit the nuts to be on the safe side.
