Winter coats primarily provide warmth. You can also make a fashion statement with your coat, but the primary function is warmth. Look at your closet, is it busting at the seams with jackets? If so, think about those that aren't lucky enough to own their own coats. Wouldn't you like to help? This article explains how you can help out a fellow human being by donating winter coats.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Free and Clear laundry detergent Phone
  1. Step 1

Take inventory of what you have and what you actually need. As shocking as it may sound, no one needs 5 winter coats. I did not come up with this number from thin air. I actually took inventory of my closet and everyone in my family had at least 5 winter coats. Eliminate the coats you didn't wear last season.

  2. Step 2

Wash the winter coats with any free and clear laundry detergent. Dyes and fragrances can irritate some people's skin. Especially if you want to donate to children, use free and clear.

  3. Step 3

Call local churches in your area and see if they have a drive for winter coats. Most churches or schools do at some point during the Fall or Winter months. This is the best place to start because you donate directly to your community.

  4. Step 4

Visit your local Goodwill store to donate winter coats that you could not give away to your church or local school. This way, you not only help people with less money, you also help provide jobs for the mentally challenged at the Goodwill locations.

Tips & Warnings
  • Think about donating your spring and fall jackets as well. Some organizations send lighter jackets to warmer geographic locations.
