Things You'll Need:
- common sense
- good eye
-
Step 1
Make sure the stylist hair and the clients hair is in good condition.
-
Step 2
Stylist should check the condition of your scalp before they begin. Also check the condition of your hair to see what type of chemical service you need if any.
-
Step 3
Make sure after a chemical service your stylist rinse and shampooed your hair 4 times.
-
Step 4
Your stylist should recommend deep condition treatments once a month. And regular condition once a week.
-
Step 5
Does your stylist gossip about the client that just left the salon. If so then she going to do you the same when you leave.
-
Step 6
She doesn't tell you that you need a partial relaxer. Those are damaging to the hair. The hairline is the weakest part of your hair. You should not over relax it.
-
Step 7
If she lets you sit and does not work the relaxer through. Don't go back
-
Step 8
The last step of a relaxer. The stylist should go around your hair line last..
-
Step 9
If the stylist does not drape you properly.
-
Step 10
Make sure you see a updated cosmetologist license.
-
Step 11
When you are getting a retouch. The relaxer should be applied only to new growth.
-
Step 12
The relaxer should not burn. It should start to tingle when you are on your way to the shampoo bowl.
-
Step 13
The stylist should protect your scalp and ears with a jelly or thick cream if scalp is sensitive

on 8/21/2009 I wish I saw this article before I chose a stylist who had only bald women as her clients. She chopped off my hair and then flat ironed it on the highest setting commenting on how well it took such high heat. Good advice.
