Decoupage can be a fun project making your home or furniture look interesting and original. Ceramic tile can be used as a surface or as the decoupage material itself. Here are some tips on how to prepare and use ceramic tile.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wash the surface with a multi-purpose surface or tile cleaner. If using bathroom tile, use a soap scum or lime buildup remover.

  2. Step 2

Make sure the grout between the tile is also clean. This might require some elbow grease, a wire brush, and a grout cleaner.

  3. Step 3

Wipe down the surface with alcohol removing any other dirt or soap residue. Do not use bleach for this can have a negative effect on the pictures when you put glue them to the tile.

  4. Step 4

Let the surface dry completely before putting up your decoupage images.

Tips & Warnings
  • If someone painted over the tile or paint dripped onto it from another project, it is perfectly fine to use paint thinner to remove it. Just wipe the tile down with the alcohol afterwards.
  • Make sure your room is plenty ventilated when using paint thinners and alcohol.
