Looking to safe $5 on that cup o'Joe at your local Starbucks? While your home or apartment might not give you that coffee house / bohemian ambiance you can still get that same coffee house taste.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Coffee
  • Milk (Preferably steamed)
  • Hershey's Sryup.
  1. Step 1

As a former Barista at a Barnes and Nobles I became familiar with the methods and materials used for making certain Starbucks drinks. This is the recipe for the mocha coffee. Since Starbucks usually changes their methods this is from around 2002. The only pitfall, however, is I don't remember the coffee brewed - perhaps Pike's Peak. But your favorite coffee will work equally well.

  2. Step 2

Brew yourself a cup of coffee and if you can heat up some milk.

  3. Step 3
IKEA milk frother - around $2.

If you don't have a fancy steamer just boil some milk and use a milk frother like this one from IKEA.

  4. Step 4
The mocha in the mocha coffee.

For a "tall" (12 oz) cup of coffee use about 2 table spoons of Hershey's chocolate syrup. For a "grande" (16oz) use 4 table spoons; and for a venti (20 oz hot) use 6 table spoons of syrup.

  5. Step 5

First put your syrup, then fill half the cup with coffee and the other half with milk. Use the frother to stir it all together and to get the nice cap of frother on top.

  6. Step 6

That's it - enjoy. Now, Starbucks has most likely changed it's recipe and I can't say for sure which coffee beans they used (that's part of their secret). This leaves you free to experiment with your favorite brands of coffee and feel free to change the ratio of chocolate syrup to taste.
Feel free to comment on the recipe! Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can play around with the chocolate servings and the brand of chocolate to suit your taste.
  • You can also play around with different brands of coffee to get your own brand of mocha style coffee down.
  • This recipe is from circa 2002, Starbucks has most likely changed it.
  • I can't comment on the coffee used because it was not revealed to us at the time.

Tastes just like the Frozen Caramel espresso drinks from Panera Bread! Better than Starbucks Frappuccinos!
