Things You'll Need:
- yarn
- crochet hook
-
Step 1
Make a slip knot in the end of the piece of yarn.
-
Step 2
Place the crochet hook through the loop of the slip knot.
-
Step 3
Yarn overWith the hook through the loop of the slip knot, slip the hook under the yarn and over it so that the yarn is wrapped around the hook. This process is called YARN OVER.
-
Step 4
Chain stitchCatch the yarn with the hook. Draw it through the loop, making the first chain stitch.
-
Step 5
It is important to keep the stitches the same size. They should be just loose enough for the hook to pass through easily. Always keep the thumb and index finger of the left hand near the stitch that is being made.
-
Step 6
A series of chain stitches is used to form the foundation row for all types of crochet.
