Train Your Cat to Stop Doing Bad Things
Train Your Cat to Stop Doing Bad Things

Is your cat scratching the furniture? How about trying to stand on your computer keyboard? This is a quick and easy way to discipline your cat.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy a brand new, easily identifiable, clean spray bottle. Label it with the word 'cat' or another identifiable label.

  2. Step 2

Fill the spray bottle with water.

  3. Step 3

When your cat does something bad, say their name firmly and spray them gently with water from the spray bottle. You need to spray the cat as he or she is doing the bad thing, so the cat knows why he or she is being sprayed.

  4. Step 4

Continue this as you see your cat doing bad things. Your cat will begin to recognize the cues as he or she does something bad.

  5. Step 5

After a while, you'll simply be able to say your cat's name sternly or hold the spray bottle up, and the cat will stop doing whatever it is that they are doing, and then stop doing the bad things entirely.

Tips & Warnings
  • Only spray your cat on their side. Do not spray their face.

on 9/17/2009 Didn't work with either one of mine. One is so skittish, I only have to tell him a firm NO. The other one, I swear she is laughing at me when I tell her NO. Squirt bottle made her just look at me and go back to it. I have to ground her to her room like a little kid.
