How to Switch Between Genie and Scale Effect for Mac Dock Items

The Genie and Scale effect refer to the minimization and maximization of applications being opened from the Dock. Which one to choose is a personal preference. Maybe you think one looks fancier but another is more practical. Experiment with each for a few days until you find a choice that suits you. These steps will help you to decide between the two.

Instructions

1. 

   From the Apple navigation tool bar, open "System Preferences."

2. Click on the icon for the "Dock" in the top "Personal" category.

3. 

   Choose the "Scale" effect in the space that states "Minimize Using." Use your computer for a while and see if you notice much of a difference with windows and applications opening and closing from the Dock.

4. 

   After a couple of days of using the "Scale" effect, switch to the "Genie" effect. This feature "pulls" windows back into the Dock.
