How to Complete the Tank Job in Grand Theft Auto Vice City
The main character in the PlayStation 2 game Grand Theft Auto Vice City has the opportunity to steal many different types of vehicles, but the tank is, hands down, the most fun one to drive. You can steal a tank and go on a short rampage through the streets on a job for Colonel Cortez, who wants to sell the vehicle on the black market. Unlike many of the other jobs available in the game, the tank job requires patience and perseverance, rather than quick gun work, to complete.

At any time after you have completed both of the missions given to you by Ricardo Diaz, drive or run over to the large cruise ship on the west side of town. Walk into the glowing pink circle to activate a cut-scene where you are asked to steal a military tank by Colonel Cortez.

Steal any car and drive north and then east toward the moving pink dot on your mini-map.

Get behind the procession of military vehicles and soldiers and slowly follow them with your car as they travel down the street.

Remain behind the procession until it stops outside the doughnut shop.

Jump out of your vehicle as soon as you see the tank driver go into the doughnut shop. Run past the soldiers guarding the tank and press the "Triangle" button to get inside it.

Quickly jerk the tank to the right and then the left to avoid the soldiers, who will try to pull you out of the vehicle; then go down the street to the right.

Take the next left and park the tank inside the repair shop to complete the mission. Be as quick as can, and try to not run into anything that will slow you down, as the tank will self-destruct and kill you if you don't park inside the shop within 2 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
Don't bother stopping for vehicles that get in your way, as the tank will cause them to explode as soon as you collide with them. However, avoid such objects as pylons, benches or street lights, as they will stop the tank from moving.
Don't try to steal the tank before it stops at the doughnut shop, or the soldiers will all shoot at you before you can get inside.
