How to Join Yahoo Internet Service

Getting an Online Internet Service account with Yahoo should be a fairly smooth process. Now that AT&T and Yahoo have merged to provide Internet access. Customers also have the option of a standalone Internet service with or without the option of having home telephone service. This would mean you can also sign up for a Wireless service.

  • Installation CD from AT&T/ Yahoo program

      Go to the ATT website. Once at the site you can begin to review all the options listed for getting online. There are four options for DSL: Elite, Pro, Express and Basic DSL. Compare all the options as the pricing differs. There's also an extra option for DSL without local phone service. This would be for Wireless Internet access.

      Check Internet status in your area. Once you have chosen your DSL option that best suits your needs you will be prompted to check availability for AT&T high speed Internet service in your area. If you have an account with AT&T or not you will still have to check for availability.

      Register. Once you have entered your address details or current phone number and there is availability you will be asked to register for home phone & Internet access. You can also call 1-800-288-2020 for sales and service questions and speak to a service representative and get signed up. Hours are Monday through Friday: 8 am to 7 pm.
      If you do call then make sure to mention that you are interested in a trial offer before committing. Let the service representative guide you to what best suits your needs.

      Wait for your Installation CD in the post. This includes an information packet for your chosen access type: Wireless Access, DSL or Cable access. When your installation CD arrives, install the CD into your computer. A "Setup" program should begin automatically. The setup wizard will prompt you through various options before proceeding to the next step. Choose each prompt carefully and then click on the "Next" button. Choosing Windows XP or Windows Vista will be an example of one of the prompts. Note: If you registered as having an Apple Macintosh computer at sign up, your Installation CD will arrive for Apple computers only.

      Accept or deny which (if any) extra features you want or need. If you are going to be using a free email service such as Gmail or Yahoo! then you can elect not to add built in email messaging services through the install CD.
      After Installing you will be billed one month after successfully connecting to the Internet. If you have chosen the free trial option you will still have 30 to 60 day's free depending on which account you registered for in Step 3.

Tips & Warnings

  • Write down your log in credentials or save them to a notepad file for future use. Passwords can be stored this way together with any telephone support numbers.
  • You can phone for Technical Support if things go wrong at any time. Technical support operators can be reached at 1-877-722-3755.
  • Be careful of signing up with extra advertising partners as you install the CD.
  • Don't lose your log in user name and or passwords for logging in.
  • Make sure to record how long you have until being billed if you requested the free trial.
