Responsibilities for a licensed practical nurses include taking vital signs, collecting data and medical history from patients, performing lab tests, and giving injections. If you are looking to become an LPN in the state of Missouri, there are a few key elements you should know.

  1. Step 1

    Start a training course. Complete coursework and pass an equivalency test and the LPN certification exam. Courses typically take a year to complete and include classes in nursing theory and clinical practice. Advanced classes include mental health, maternity and pediatric and geriatric care.

  2. Step 2

    Find out the cost involved. Costs will vary with each individual program but can run around $9750 per semester, as is the tuition at Avila University. Thise estimation does not include books, lab fees or activity fees. Apply for financial aid to receive a student loan or Pell Grant.

  3. Step 3

    Register with Missouri's Division of Professional Registration after receiving your LPN registration. The Board of Nursing is housed in the same location and has everything needed to renew or register a new license.
