New Jersey is rich in folklore. There are many ghost stories that are centuries old. If you happen to visit or live in New Jersey, there are several haunts that are worth exploring. If you're considering a ghost hunt in New Jersey, use the following steps to plan your adventure.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flashlight
  1. Step 1

Explore the Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey. Hunt for a dragon-like creature known to locals as the "Jersey Devil." Rumored to be a ghost-like creature, the Jersey Devil has been been feared by locals since the 1700s. Check the skies--above the trees--for the flying creature. The Jersey Devil has been known to stalk small animals (and humans) below. Carry a flashlight at night. The Pine Barrens can be very frightening.

  2. Step 2

Visit the West Side Tavern on Route 88 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. You may have heard of a self-cleaning oven, but have you heard of a self-cleaning establishment? The ghosts of the West Side Tavern are described as having compulsive cleaning disorders. The ghosts, who are said to be male and female, flush the toilets for patrons, turn the faucets on and even vacuum the carpets.

  3. Step 3

Wander around George Washington Cemetery in Bergen County, New Jersey. Look for a man that wanders the cemetery with his hands clasped behind him. The man is said to glance over each grave stone. Once approached, he does not respond. He walks away--only to vanish into thin air.

  4. Step 4

Experiment with the supernatural or decide if you're on a "magnetic hill" in West Paterson, New Jersey. On Ewing Avenue in West Paterson, there's a tale of a ghost that happens to be a drunk driver. For unknown reasons, the "intoxicated ghost" puts his ghost car in reverse and backs up the hill on Ewing Avenue--pushing cars stopped at the stop sign--uphill. Cars literally roll uphill.

  5. Step 5

Drive the stretch of road known to locals as "Annie Road" in West Paterson. "Annie Road," which is actually named "Riverview Drive," has been dubbed "Annie Road" in honor (and awe) of a ghost named Annie. There are several variations of the ghost story, but each story centers around "Annie," a young woman who lost her life on Riverview Drive. Although seemingly harmless, Annie has been known to startle motorists and pedestrians. She has been blamed for a large number of unexplained car accidents on Riverview Drive.
