Neo-grunge is a fashion trend that became popular around 2003. It is an homage to the grunge style that was at the forefront of fashion during the early 1990s. Grunge fashion paralleled the grunge music of such bands as Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Its re-emergence coincided with the rise of neo-grunge music. This trend exposes a new generation to baggy, layered and flannel clothing.

Things You'll Need:

    Flannel/plaid
    Flannel/plaid

Wear flannel or plaid. The most recognizable article needed to form any neo-grunge look is a button-up flannel or plaid shirt.

  2. Step 2

Wear natural colors. Incorporate grays, browns and greens into your wardrobe. Earth tones are essential to the neo-grunge style.

  3. Step 3

Layer everything. Two or three shirts are typical of a neo-grunge outfit. Place sweaters over T-shirts, or wear flannel button-ups over long-sleeved thermals.

  4. Step 4

Go for the loose fit. Shorts and pants should be baggy, and shirts should be a size bigger than what you would normally wear.

  5. Step 5

Add a hat. Staying with the low-key theme of neo-grunge, stick with beanies and skull caps, as opposed to baseball caps.
