A Hobbit Smoking a Pipe

Everyone loves a hobbit. With the relatively recent release of the Lord of The Rings movies, hobbits have hopped back on the radar as lovable heroes. Hobbits themselves are short, often stocky, warmhearted little people with hairy feet from the fictional land of Middle Earth. However, despite their appearance, many hobbits have risen to the ranks of great heroes, like the heroic yet humble Bilbo Baggins. And a few have sunk to the depths of depravity, like the sinister and sneaky Gollum. This article will show you how to draw a Hobbit character of your own using a simple step by step method.

  1. Drawing a Hobbit

    • 1

Begin by drawing the basic frame. Draw an oval for the head. Add a rectangular shape for the body but make sure it is wider at the bottom than the top. Add feet with rectangular shapes. Create hands with circles and mark the elbows with smaller circles. Add limbs with simple lines.

    • 2

Draw a cross or "t" shape inside the head. This will later mark out where the eyes nose and mouth will go. Add a pipe in the left hand with a rectangle shape for the bowl; attach a curved line to this.

    • 3

Mark out the details on the frame. Draw ovals on the horizontal line of the cross for eyes. Add a nose with a wide semi circle. Draw the mouth with a curved line. Add a chin with a rectangular shape jutting out from the bottom of the face. Draw the hair with swooping, jagged lines around the head and across the forehead. Create the eyebrows with curved lines above the eyes. Add ears with small triangles.

    • 4

Draw the guidelines for the clothing. Draw two parallel lines across the stomach to create the belt. Add a square shape in the middle for the buckle. Add pants with two wide rectangles on each leg. Add sleeves by drawing flared lines around the arm guidelines.

    • 5

Finish adding details to the frame. Add pupils and irises to the eyes with small circles inside the eye ovals. Separate the fingers on the left side hand with four short lines.

    • 6

Create toes with small semi circles on the feet. Add toenails with small squares on the toes. Add a small patch of fur to the tops of both feet. Finish the buckle on the belt with another square inside the buckle and draw a small rectangular shape attached to this.

    • 7

Erase all the guidelines. Go back in and detail any areas that were smudged or erased when you removed the guidelines. Add a whiff of smoke to the pipe with tall curved lines.

    • 8

Color the drawing if you wish. Use green for the vest and an earthy yellow for the sleeves. Make the belt an orange brown and color the pants garnet. Use a flesh color for the skin and give the hobbit brown hair. Lastly, use a dark brown for the pipe and make the hobbit's eyes blue. There you have it! Your very own hobbit hero!
