How to Render a Wind Orb
With 3D and photo-editing tools, you can easily create a high quality rendering of a wind orb for a wallpaper, video game, print-out or other project. The process, though it may seem quite lengthy, can actually be quite short and simple. Even those with little artistic skill can create an incredible render.

1
Open a 3D modeling and texturing program like 3D Studio Max or Anim8or (see Resources) and create a sphere using the basic modeling tools. Set the color for this sphere to a light blue or turquoise.
-
2
Select the sphere as a whole and go into texturing mode. The option for this will be located on the toolbar or in the file menu. Choose a lighted texture option for the sphere, and set the opacity of it to a low level. Change the refraction levels as desired to get a good amount of shine out of the sphere.

3
Create a high quality rendering of the orb using the render tools in the file menu of the program. Make sure that the option to separate background and foreground layers is selected. Export the rendering to an easy-to-find location.
-
4
Open the file in Adobe Photoshop or a similar program. Adjust the hue and lightness of the orb using the image and adjustments tool.
-
5
Make sure that the foreground layer is selected and apply a wind filter to the image. This will make the orb look like it is actually displacing air. Change the settings of the filter as desired to make the orb look like it is blowing air outwards.
-
6
Apply a blue and white spot lighting effect to the orb to add to the glowing effect already added in the 3D program.
-
7
Save the file to a location of your choice, in the format that best suits your needs.

Tips & Warnings
Take time when applying lighting effects, as these will make or break your render.
Always use your own work when making publishable content.
