Candles add ambience to any home. These tissue paper-covered candle holders are easy and yet very attractive. Make several for a centerpiece on your holiday dinner table or place them on a mantel over the fireplace. The graduated layers of tissue paper make it look like there are various shades of color, though only one color of tissue paper is being used. Does this Spark an idea?

      Fold up one edge of a sheet of tissue paper about 1/2 inch and crease it. Repeat with three more sheets of tissue paper. Make the folds different sizes. Fold 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch, 1 inch and 1 1/2 inches. Each sheet of paper should have a different-size fold.

      Lay one sheet of tissue paper on your work surface with the folded edge facing toward you. Insert the folded edge of the second piece of tissue paper into the fold of the first sheet. Insert the folded edge of the third piece of paper into the fold of the second sheet. Insert the folded edge of the fourth piece of paper into the folded edge of the third sheet. The four sheets of tissue paper should be stacked inside of each other with the folded edges facing toward you.

      Lay the candle holder on top of the sheets of tissue paper even with the right side of the paper. The bottom edge of the candle holder should be even with the bottom folded edge of the tissue paper. The top of the tissue paper should be no more than 1 inch above the top edge of the candle holder. Trim if necessary.

      Attach the right side of the tissue paper to the candle holder with double-sided tape. Roll the candle holder up in the tissue paper until it's completely covered. Use double-sided tape to attach the other loose end of the tissue paper to the candle holder. The folds of the tissue paper make it appear there are different shades of color. Insert a candle into the candle holder. Be sure the candle is shorter than the top of the candle holder so it will not ignite the tissue paper.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use red, green or gold tissue paper for Christmas. Use oranges, reds and yellows for Thanksgiving. Use any color tissue paper to match the decor of your home.

  • Be careful that the candle is short enough not to ignite the tissue paper. Never leave lit candles within reach of children or animals.
