How to Connect Direc TV TiVo to PC Ethernet

Direc TV TiVo (shortened to Direc TiVo) is a DVR service that allows you to record and download televised content to a hard drive for future viewing. With both personal computers and DVR systems gaining in popularity and power, combining the two opens possibilities for extra features and hard-drive space. With the right equipment, connecting your Direc TV TiVo DVR service to your computer allows you to stream television shows to your PC (or vice versa) and take advantage of the increased hard-drive capacities and features enabled by combining the two devices.

Things You'll Need

• Windows XP or Vista operating system
• PC network card
• Ethernet cable

Instructions

1. Turn off both your Direc TV TiVo device and your personal computer.

2. Use the ethernet cable to network your PC to your TiVo device. Plug one end of the cable into the network card on your computer, and the other into the back end of your TiVo device.

3. Turn on both the computer and the Direc TV TiVo device. On your computer, click the "Start" menu in Windows XP or Windows Vista. Navigate to the operating system's control panels and run the "Internet Connection Sharing" program. All devices on a network require an IP address to connect to the server, including your TiVo device. After you run the connection program, your TiVo device will be given an IP address by your computer.

4. Write down your Direc TV TiVo's IP address. Open your web browser and type in the TiVo's IP address as if it were a website address. Click "Enter" on your keyboard; your browser will connect to your Direc TV TiVo device and enable networking between your PC and your DVR device.

5. Watch streaming television through your Direc TV Tivo and PC connection.

Tips & Warnings

• Be careful when typing in your TiVo's IP address. Entering an incorrect IP address will cause an error in your connection.
