How to Edit Status Messages in iChat

The latest release of Apple's Mac OS X operating system, also known as Leopard, includes an updated version of the iChat messaging software. In iChat, Mac users can log in with either an AOL Instant Messenger or MobileMe chat account and begin adding contacts to their buddy list. The iChat application also gives users the ability to set "Away" and "Available" messages to notify contacts of their current status.

• Mac running OS X 10.5 or later iChat software

Instructions

1. Open the iChat program by clicking on the dock icon.

2. Open the "Status" drop-down menu at the top of the buddy list window and select "Edit Status Menu."

3. Double-click on the status message that you wish to edit, and then enter new text and press the enter key.

4. Select a message from either the "Available" or "Away" messages list and click the minus sign to delete the selected message.

5. Click the "OK" button to save the changes you made in Steps 3 and 4. These revisions will automatically appear in your "Status" menu.
