How to Make a Velvet Ribbon Chocker Necklace
My sister and I used to make these and sell them while we were in college! They're an easy, fun way to create a custom necklace.

1
Measure your neck, then add an extra inch to allow for the choker to overlap. if your neck measures 12", buy 13". Buy some velvet ribbon at a craft store like JoAnn's.
-
2
After you've cut enough ribbon for one necklace, attach the velcro. I like the velcro that has the adhesive on the backs. You can either use that kind of just sew the velcro. That extra inch I mentioned is used here. Attach one piece of velcro closure to the outside of the ribbon and the other to the inside. When you wrap it around your neck it can be closed by overlapping on end onto the other.

Here's the fun part! Look for "charms"! These can be just about anything from old ornate pins, cameos, a single earring. Make sure the charm has a flat back that will be easy to work with.
-
4
Take the charm and place in the center of the ribbon necklace. Take the hot glue gun and place glue on the back of the charm. Only glue the portion that will be place on the actual ribbon. Allow a few hours to dry.
-
5
Once the charm has dried, place the necklace around your neck, fasten it with the velcro and Voila! There you have a one of a kind necklace!

Tips & Warnings
Look for inexpensive charms at the Dollar Store
More than one charm can be used they compliment each other.
Satin can also be used instead of velvet.
If you prefer a clasp, fold under the ends of the velvet ribbon and sew a hem.
Sew one side of the clasp to one end of the ribbon and do the same for the other end.
