How to care for a hamster with wet tail. This also works with girbls, rats, and mice.

Things You'll Need:

  • water
  • Pedialyte
  • Bene -Bac
  1. Step 1

    Wet tail is the most common problem in hamsters. It can be caused many things such as; excessive handling, being awake during the day (they are nocturnal creatures), dirty bedding, to much fresh food among other thing that cause stress.

  2. Step 2

    To treat wet tail you need to first change out their bedding, clean their cage, provide new, dry food, remove any fresh foods, and do not handle them unless it's absolutely necessary . (like cleaning their cage)

  3. Step 3

    To help with your hamsters wet tail you need to give them Bene-Bac, it will help readjust the pH balance that is causing the wet tail. After you've given them the Bene-Bac you need to mix 50% water and 50% Pedialyte and put it in their water bottle to keep them form becoming dehydrated. Try to make them drink some of the mixture after you've given them the Bene-Bac.

Tips & Warnings
  • After your hamster is better make sure to clean their bedding again
  • Dehydration will lead to death in about 24-48 hours for a hamster
