Things You'll Need:
- Soy wax
- Wick
- Melter
- Thermometer
- Pourer
- Wax dye
- Candle fragrance
- Superglue
- Mugs
-
Step 1
Assemble all your supplies on a newspaper-covered surface. For a pourer, you can use a glass measuring cup if you don't have the stainless steel kind intended for candle making. Before you make the soy coffee mug candles, make sure the mugs are clean and dry.
-
Step 2
Place mugs on a cookie sheet in the oven on low heat for about ten minutes. They should be warmed before wax is poured to avoid cracking or breakage.
-
Step 3
Cut wicks to the proper length (about an inch longer than height of container). Attach each wick to a tab, and super glue the tab to the bottom of the mug.
-
Step 4
Melt the soy wax according to manufacturer's directions. Some waxes are microwaveable, while others need to be brought to temperature in a double boiler or wax melter. Soy coffee mug candles use wax intended for containers, and the wax is made slightly differently.
-
Step 5
Add wax dye to the melted soy wax as it reaches the manufacturer's suggested temperature. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula to fully incorporate.
-
Step 6
Remove wax from heat source and add one ounce of fragrance per 16 ounces of wax. Mix to fully incorporate.
-
Step 7
Coffee mug candlesPour wax into candles, leaving about an inch of head space at the top. Center the wick so that it is in the middle of the mug. Allow the soy coffee mug candle to cool completely before trimming the wick and lighting the candle.
