How to Create eCards
There are many free eCard websites that allow you to make custom eCards using your own photographs, pictures and images. Look for tools on an eCard website that enable you to choose your own fonts and sizes, add special effects, background colors and textures. If you're designing a custom eCard for someone special, and want to make it more memorable and interesting, add music to help celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday, anniversary or holiday.

Go to a free eCard website (see Resources) and click the "Get Started," "eCard" or similar button. Depending on the website, you may have to download an eCard installer on your computer. Click the "Save" button when the eCard installer popup box appears on your desktop.

Locate the file path where you saved the eCard installer on your computer and double-click on it. Click the "I Agree" button to start the installation process. The eCard interface appears on your screen.

Click on one of the tabs to select a theme for the occasion that you're celebrating. For instance, click on the "Birthday," "Holiday," "Anytime" or "Seasonal" tab button. Browse the selection of eCards and use the slider on the interface window to scroll down the page.

Select an eCard that you want to send to someone. Move your mouse cursor over an eCard image on the interface window and click on it. Personalize your eCard by clicking the "Personalize" button. Click the "Get Photos" button and locate the file path for the photo that you want to use.

Click on the image, then click the "Add" button. When finished, click the "Done" button. Drag-and-drop the photo from the left pane to the blank area on the eCard. Type a message in the "Add Your Text Here" text box.

Select one of the radio buttons for the type of music that you want to add to your eCard. Select a background color and the transition type. Click the "Preview" button to examine the results; if you're satisfied, click the "Share, Print or DVD" button.

Click on the "Send" button to send your eCard to your recipient via email. Type the recipient's email address in the "To" text box. Enter a message in the "Message" text box and click the "Send" button again.

Tips & Warnings
Creating an ecard can be as much or even more fun than sending or receiving one. But it takes more work and some knowledge of the required software and technical know-how. It's important to have a plan and to know exactly what kind of ecard you want to create. Creating your own ecard could be a great way to send a wish with an extra special personal touch. It's also creative project that you can share with friends and family.
