How to Eliminate Funky Odors and Smells in a Car With no Chemicals

Is anybody else amazed at how odors can remain in a car for days at a time? I have a Toyota and a Chevrolet and sometimes odors will remain for a few days.

Many people would like to keep windows open to solve this issue. Problem is, sometimes windows need to be kept shut for security and weather issues, often for days at a time.

If the inside of your car needs to be deodorized after transporting food, pets, or a smoker this simple idea may be the preferred way. Especially, if the idea of spraying chemicals inside a confined area where you breathe does not appeal to you.

Things You'll Need

  • Used coffee beans
  • Waterproof Container such as a tupperwear or ziplock container.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour the used ground coffee beans into a waterproof container.
Fill the container as full as you wish. The paper filter can even be added.

    • 2

Place the container in the car with the lid removed.
Used coffee grounds absorb odors and release a warm pleasant smell that is hard to replicate with chemicals.

    • 3

Place the lid near the coffee ground filled container.
Other passengers who enter the automobile may not see or tip over the container. Before said passengers enter the auto, be sure to tightly cover the coffee ground container before the grounds are spilled. It may also be a good idea to mention that things may need to be "organized" before passengers enter.

If your not a coffee drinker but like the aroma, many coffee shops will gladly contribute used coffee grounds.

Tips & Warnings

  • One batch of coffee grounds are normally good for three to four days.

  • Dispose of coffee grounds on your lawn, minus the filter.

  • You may see your coffee consumption rate increase.

My boyfriend is a smoker and a coffee drinker, so I will definitely have to try this one out. I also have a 2 year old who can create some pretty strange smells too...Great idea!
