You may need a concealed weapons permit in Arizona for self defense, work, or simply because you wish to exercise your rights to do so legally in the state. Your Arizona concealed weapons permit will be recognized in many other states besides Arizona, so you will be allowed to carry a concealed weapon in those states too. Here's a look at how to get a conceal carry weapons permit in Arizona.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Training course
  • Application packet
  • Fees
  1. Step 1

Find out if you are qualified to obtain a concealed weapons permit and find an organization that offers an approved CCW training class. The class will be at least eight hours in length taught by a CWPU approved instructor and will require firing live ammunition with a handgun.

  2. Step 2

Acquire your application packet. When you complete the course the instructor will give you a packet containing an application, fingerprint card and a return envelope. Make sure the instructor certifies the training on the application, which will include the training program number, training instructor number, and the training organization number. It must also include an organizational stamp.

  3. Step 3

Get fingerprinted. You are required to be fingerprinted using the applicant fingerprint card that the instructor provides you. The instructor’s organization might provide fingerprinting services or you might have to locate your own provider. There are some police agencies that will provide fingerprinting services for a small fee; however, DPS does not. Contact your local agencies to find out if they offer this service. Whoever does complete the fingerprint must make sure the prints are clear and distinct. Do not tape over the top of prints.

  4. Step 4

Use the return envelope you were provided to return the completed application, fingerprint card, and the required fee. The fee must be in the form of either a money order, certified, or cashiers check (made out to the AZ DPS) to the CPU. To find a list of current fees check the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety website.

Tips & Warnings
  • Allow up to 65 days to process your application and to receive your permit. Don't contact DPS to find out the status of your application. If after 65 days you haven't received your permit, then talk to the personnel at CWPU.
  • If you were born outside the US or one of its' territories, you must provide a copy of proof of citizenship or resident alien status.
