A New Years tradition of America is to watch the New Years Day Parades across the country. The one that is most remembered has to be the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena California. You can buy tickets for this event, but seats, as good as what you pay are available for free.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Each year on New Years Day, the city of Pasadena comes together to celebrate the New Year as well as the traditional football game later in the day.

  2. Step 2

Tickets to see the parade range from $40 to $160 depending on where you decide to sit, but what people don't know is these tickets are for bleachers set up, backed away from the street a bit, to watch. There are sections that are placed on open parking lots.

  3. Step 3

What most don't know is the space between the bleachers and the street (about 10 feet) is standing and seating area that can be accessed to the public. That's right it is absolutely free!!!

  4. Step 4

Another area that is absolutely free to watch is the street between the two curbs. This is closed off at 6am and can be easily accessed for your free viewing pleasure.

  5. Step 5

People from the community take their sleeping bags out the night before and mark their spot (that would be the diehards) but even if you don't show up until early the next morning you will still find curbside seating!

  6. Step 6

It is recommended to start half way through the route and walk toward the end. At some point, you will find spots to sit or stand. Don't worry if you see lots of people as most don't know the curb areas are free and have purchased tickets.

  7. Step 7

You won't miss any of the action, just in case you are worried that you won't get a good seat. Bleacher seats are very uncomfortable and everyone has to pay the additional $10 for a program. Plus restrooms are open to everyone, paid or not.

Tips & Warnings
  • The best time to be at the parade is 6am looking for a spot since it starts at 8am.
  • Bring a heavy coat. Standing in the shade is cool.
