If your hair style includes bangs you know as well as I do that the bangs seem to grow out long before you need another hair cut. Going back to your stylist to have them trimmed is always an option, but sometimes time just doesn't allow for it. Here are a few quick steps to help you learn how to trim your own bangs in between hair cuts!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Good quality scissors or specialty hair cutting scissors
  • Towel or cape to protect clothing
  • A mirror
  • Water
  • A steady hand
  1. Step 1

First thing, set up your area. Wrap a cape or towel around yourself to catch falling hair. If you are doing it over the sink, you might want to cover the sink as well. Make sure your mirror is clean and you have your comb and scissors ready.

  2. Step 2

Separate your bangs from the rest of your hair. You might want to use a clip to hold the rest of your hair up and out of the way.

  3. Step 3

Lightly spritz your bangs with water. They should be damp, but not dripping.

  4. Step 4

Comb the bangs downward to make sure there are no tangles. Pull any remaining hair that should not be cut with the bangs away.

  5. Step 5

Now you can work on cutting those bangs! Start by taking 1/2" to 1" wide section (from either the right or left side) and cut. You can either cut straight across or on an upward angle, depending on your style & preference.

  6. Step 6

Work on the next 1/2" to 1" section immediately next to the section you just cut. Continue until you have finished all the bangs.

  7. Step 7

Comb the bangs downward again to check for pieces that need attention.

Tips & Warnings
  • If time allows, your stylist can do this easily!
  • Make sure you use a good pair of scissors. Kiddie scissors just don't "cut it"!
  • Always be conservative about cutting your bangs. Wet hair is longer than dry hair, so keep that in mind. Also, you can always go back and re-trim them if they are still too long.
