Save Energy and Money in the Summer
Save Energy and Money in the Summer

Saving energy is not only for cold weather! We use these tips to save money on the farm during the summer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Conserve air conditioning by deflecting daytime sunlight. You can install & use awnings on your windows to accomplish this.

Keep all drapes and window treatments closed on sunny windows to avoid heat entering, and cool air from exiting.

  2. Step 2

Keep the filters in your air conditioner clean. Replace them when necessary.

Keep coils or fins of air-conditioning units free of dust, lint, etc.

  3. Step 3

Use an attic ventilation fan instead of air conditioning.

Install a turbine ventilator on the roof to pull hot air out of the attic. You can purchase one of these at any home improvement store such as Loews or Home Depot.

This will keep the air circulating, creating cooler air.

  4. Step 4

Conserve Engery by turning the lights off when you leave a room or in any room that is not being used.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stay cool and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated in warm weather.
