Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Keep your tires removed from extreme weather conditions by storing the car in a garage. Allow your Sonata to rest for up to an hour after driving before you start to check the tire pressure. Tires should be cool when checking air pressure to ensure the best possible reading.
-
Step 2
Check the recommended tire pressure for your automobile. All tires have the recommended psi listed on the tire sidewall. Hyundai recommends tires on its Sonata cars to be maintained between 26 and 34 psi. You can also refer to the label placed on the driver's side center pillar on the outer panel for exact manufacturer recommendations on your car.
-
Step 3
Remove the valve stem caps. These small plastic screw-on tops keep dirt and moisture out of your valve stems. This promotes a longer life. Keep them in a secure place like a pocket to avoid losing them.
-
Step 4
Insert the small end of your tire pressure gauge over the valve stem until you no longer hear air escaping. This means you have a good seal. Watch the needle on the dial and note what number it stops on, if you are using a dial gauge. This is you tire's air pressure.
-
Step 5
Compare this reading with the recommendations. If the tire is low add air. If the pressure is too high, press the small button on the side of your gauge to release tire air. Repeat this step for all four tires and the full-size spare.
