How to Do Wing Chun Empty Hand Forms

There are three Wing Chun Empty Hand forms. They are Siu Lim Tao, Chum Kiu and Biu Jee. When the sequence of moves is executed properly, it takes about 40 minutes to do Wing Chun Empty Hand forms. Condition your mind and body through repeated practice.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin with Siu Lim Tao. Feet are slightly more than shoulder width apart. Bend your knees and maintain a straight back. Move hands continually forwards and backwards inside the centerline of the body.

    • 2

Make a fist with both hands. Hold one arm near your side, elbow bent and your fist in the center of your body. The other arm extends forward from the center of your body keeping the elbow soft.

    • 3

Bring the fist back and switch arm positions. Continue to protect your center. With your fist facing up, open your hand. Turn your hand down and then rotate it in a circle.

    • 4

Flow into Chum Kiu by turning your feet slightly to one side. Head faces forward with your arms raised. One elbow is almost shoulder high with the hand facing down. Bend the other arm so it's facing up and your fingers are pointing toward the ceiling.

    • 5

Lower your raised arm as you turn your head to one side. Extend both arms so your hands meet in the center and palms face out. Raise both arms again with one hand flat palm up and the other hand points straight up with fingertips bent.

    • 6

Return feet to shoulder width apart and facing forward for Biu Jee. Extend one arm out open-handed. Move your hand up and down, side-to-side palm facing down and in a circle palm up.

    • 7

Pull your arm back and tilt one elbow up and the other elbow down. Strike the air with your elbows turning to the side with each strike.
