Things You'll Need:
- Planter
- Tractor
- Combine
-
Step 1
Keep your planter in tip-top shape. You don't want a planter that skips planting or plants 2 seeds at one time. This will minimize your yield.
-
Step 2
Plant late in May or very early in June to maximize yield. This way the threat of a frost is minimal and your corn crop still has plenty of warm weather to grow. Plant too late and dry August weather could hinder growth.
-
Step 3
Rotate your crops for a higher yield. Don't plant corn in the same field each year. Rotate with beans, oats, or alfalfa.
-
Step 4
Test the corn for readiness often during harvest season. As soon as it is ready to harvest, combine it out of the fields. You don't want the risk of high winds to knock down your plants. This will minimize your yield.
