One of the key elements every freshmen living in a dorm needs to have is a dorm refrigerator. Choosing the right refrigerator can be tricky though since some colleges have rules about refrigerators and each room only has so much space. Here's how to choose dorm refrigerators.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know what size of refrigerator is allowed. Before you even begin shopping for dorm refrigerators it is important that you know what your college or university dorm allows. Many prohibit refrigerators that are above a certain size or power capability. Contacting the housing staff or reading the rules of the student housing handbook can provide you with the allowed size.

  2. Step 2

Get in touch with roommate. If you are going to have a roommate in your dorm room it is important that you get in touch with them about dorm refrigerators. They may already have one to bring, and it is often good for roommates to share since there is only so much space in a room.

  3. Step 3

Know the amount of space in the room. Although many college and universities are providing more options for suite and private living that allows for more space, dorm rooms are still relatively small. You should know how much space you have in your room as well as what you and your roommate are planning to bring as this can help you when selecting which dorm refrigerator to buy.

  4. Step 4

Consider what you will be storing in the refrigerator. Finally it is important that you take the time to think about what your dorm refrigerator will be used for. Many people simply choose to store soda or other beverages in it while others opt to store food. Some dorm refrigerators come with a miniature freezer section which can be great for people that enjoy TV dinners or ice cream in their dorm room.
