tell if your baby has an ear infection

Ear infections are extremely common among babies and toddlers. Ear infections can be extremely painful and need to be treated with an antibiotic called amoxicillin. The sooner that you get your child to the doctor, the quicker they can begin to get relief. Here are a few telltale signs that your baby may have an ear infection.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Excessive ear pulling is an obvious sign that there may be something wrong. Keep in mind that as baby becomes aware of his eyes, ears, hands, feet etc. it is natural for them to play with these body parts. Don't run to your doctors office if this is the only symptom that baby is exhibiting.

  2. Step 2

Take your babys temperature. Is he running a fever? Usually ear infections are accompanied by a fever and will feel warm to your touch. If the fever is accompanied by the ear pulling there is a good chance that it is the beginning of an ear infection.

  3. Step 3

Is baby crankier than usual? Usually there is very little that can really console baby when he is having pain associated to an ear infection. If he is crankier than usual in addition to the other symptoms and nothing that you do will soothe them then get in touch with your pediatrician as soon as possible.

  4. Step 4

Does your baby seem like he's coming down with a cold? Does he have a runny nose, coughing , sneezing and maybe some congestion. usually an ear infection is accompanied by these symptoms.
