Step 1
See a nutritionist who can help you to learn better eating habits. This is covered by all insurance companies when you are newly diagnosed with diabetes.
-
Step 2
Eat foods that are low in carbohydrates, and high in protein. Also adding fruits and vegetables into your diet is essential.
-
Step 3
Visit your doctor every 3 months to find out what your A1C is and how the number on your A1C can effect your health.
-
Step 4
Get information about the glycemic index. There are foods that have a higher GI than other foods. This information is very important to diabetes because the higher the GI index of the food the more it will cause your blood sugar to rise after eating it.
-
Step 5
Exercise for at least 30 minutes each day. Taking a walk after dinner will lower your blood sugar levels and is a good way to manage the disease. Diabetes and diet go hand in hand, take better care of yourself and it will pay off in the long run.
