Things You'll Need:
- Internet Access
- Local Homeschool Support Group
- Petty Cash
-
Step 1
Send out a notice to your local homeschool support group, and let everyone know you're looking to buy used homeschool curriculum. Sometimes families will have a shelf full of unused or outgrown items that they've paid full price for and just don't know what to do with it. Making sure that everyone in your area knows that you're looking for homeschool bargains is a god way to become the “one to call” when people want to get rid of something.
-
Step 2
Check out online used item exchange sites, like the Vegsource message boards. Users post listings of the items that they have for sale and people like you can browse for specific homeschool curriculum items at prices ,much lower than new. Often, these books will be just like new, or slightly used.
-
Step 3
Check your local Craigslist website. You can look in your city to see if anyone has items up for sale or even for free. The best time of year to check for used homeschool books is from July through September when families are traditionally planning for the new year and unloading the things they didn't use during the previous year. You can also place wanted ads for specific items you're looking for.
-
Step 4
Be open minded. Just because something didn't work in one family doesnt' mean that it won't work in yours. Every family will enjoy different products, and something that you absolutely hate will be someone else's can't-live-without-it item. People are different, go figure!
-
Step 5
Visit Ebay, they have an entire section devoted to homeschooling supplies. Sales peak during the summer, so that if you find yourself shopping at another time of year you are more likely to find big discounts. Since there are less people shopping for homeschool books in the summer, there are less people driving up the auction price
