Step 1
1. Stop on level ground if possible. Be sure the car or truck is in Park and apply the Emergency brake.
-
Step 2
2. Remove spare tire and jack (usually found in trunk). Place the jack under the frame near the tire that you are going to change. Be sure it's on a metal portion of the car. Many cars are made from molded plastic, and if you don't place the jack in the right spot, it will crack the body when you start lifting. If you're not sure about the right place to put the jack, read your owner's manual

Step 3
3. Remove the hub cap. Loosen the lug nuts prior to raising the car; this will keep the wheel from turning. Do not take them all the way off. Simply loosen them.
-
Step 4
4. Use the jack to life the tire off the ground. Remove the lug nuts.
-
Step 5
5. Pull the tire off the car.
-
Step 6
6. Place the spare tire on the wheel; you may need to raise the car to get the spare on. Tighten the lug nuts as much as possible. Try to tighten in a cross pattern, give each one a full turn until they are equally tight
-
Step 7
7. Lower the car until the tire touches the ground. Tightening the nuts as much as possible. Lower the car to the ground fully. Remove the jack.
