Things You'll Need:
- Potatoes
- Oil for Frying
- Onion Salt
- Onion Powder
-
Step 1
We all know that French fries are not one of the healthiest foods under the sun. But, if you follow an otherwise healthy diet the majority of the time it can't hurt anything to give in to a good unhealthy craving every now and then. Maybe once a month you can reward yourself with a small dose of something that you crave that may not be all that healthy. For me, salty foods are the things that I crave; potato chips and trench fries are my absolute favorites. I eat healthy foods maybe 94% of the time, so I don't feel all that bad when I give in to my cravings once in a while. So, in that spirit--I invite you to try this recipe that I came up with one Saturday afternoon.
The first thing you'll want to do is get your oil ready for frying. I use canola oil but you can use whatever turns your fancy. -
Step 2
While your oil is heating up, wash and peel a couple of healthy potatoes. Then slice them up into ultra-thin strips to make the perfect American French fries. Pat them dry to get rid of excess moisture.
-
Step 3
Next you'll drop your fries into the oil and let them cook up until they're done. Use a big slotted spoon to pull your cooked fries out of the oil and dump them on a plate covered with paper towels to catch the oil.
-
Step 4
While they're still piping hot give them a couple of healthy shakes of onion salt and onion powder. Let them cool down just enough so that they don't burn your mouth and then dig in.
