Cuban coffee is a good morning eye opener and a big pick me up in the afternoon. Just follow these easy steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ground espresso coffee
  • 6 cup espresso coffee maker (shown in picture above)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • water
  • 4 cup glass measuring cup
  • spoon
  • 1 to 1+1/2 ounce coffee cups
  1. Step 1

Unscrew top of a 6 cup coffee maker and fill the bottom with cold water to the water mark. Spoon espresso ground coffee in the strainer cup, level off. Replace top by screwing back on and place coffee pot on burner set on medium heat.

Leave the cover open so that you can watch the first bubbling of coffee fill the top section of the coffee maker.

  3. Step 3

Meanwhile, fill a 4 cup measuring cup with 1/3 cup sugar. The first liquid will be dark in color and rich in oil (about 1-3 tsp coffee), as soon as you see the first amount of coffee fill the top, remove from heat and pour on to the sugar.

  4. Step 4

Replace coffee pot on burner and leave with cover closed till all liquid is in the top. Meanwhile whip the sugar and coffee liquid with a spoon. It will become light and fluffy.

  5. Step 5

Pour the coffee on to the whipped sugar and stir till blended. Then pour in your favorite Cuban coffee cups. The coffee will be sweet, strong and have a nice creamy foam on top.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use only the thick dark liquid that first comes out in the top of the coffee maker.
  • See my article on: How to make Cafe Con Leche.
  • Do not pack the coffee grounds into strainer cup as they will swell during cooking process.
  • Be careful not to overfill with water; not over the steam valve.
