Step 1
After you set up your account, when you log in you will be given a page with the options to "Find People You Know", and "View and Edit Your Profile". Click on the link to "View and Edit Your Profile" and Facebook will take you to the appropriate page.
-
Step 2
Once Facebook takes you to the Profile page you will be given the opportunity to fill in information in four sections: Basic Information, Personal Information, Contact Information, and Eduction and Work. Click on each of these sections to get prompts to help you "reveal" yourself to the Facebook world. Do not worry about leaving areas blank; there is no requirement to fill in every space. Just a personal opinion, but I give very little info in the Contact Section -- I figure people on Facebook can contact me by way of Facebook, they do not need my phone numbers or addresses.
-
Step 3
On the upper left hand corner of the profile page is a spot with a "shadow" portrait. There are options here for you to upload a picture of yourself or even take one with a web cam if you computer is so equipped. You can even upload a picture of your family or even a business logo if you prefer. This picture will appear beside your name when you communicate with others on Facebook. Also if someone is searcing for you on Facebook, when they put in your name and city, there may be many people with your same name. Posting a picture in your profile allows the search-er to see if you are really the person they are looking for.
-
Step 4
These steps pretty much take care of setting up your profile on Facebook.
You can access your profile at any time by "clicking" on the word "Profile" in the Blue Menu Bar that appears at the top of the page when you sign into Facebook. Just remember to hit the "save changes" button after you change or enter new information. -
Step 5
Now that you have created your Facebook account and gotten your Facebook profile set up you can proceed to Find and Add New Friends. See my article below in the Resource Section for how to find and add new friends to your Facebook account.
