You've signed up for Second Life, learned the basics and now you're thinking, "o.k. now what?" Well, you need to find some interesting places to go. This article will show you some simple ways to find interesting places to visit in Second Life where you can meet people, see some cool sites and enhance your Second Life experience.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A Second Life Account
  1. Step 1

Log on to your Second Life Account.

  2. Step 2

Click the "Search" Button at the bottom center of your Second Life Viewer.

  3. Step 3

When the Search window opens, click the "Showcase" tab along the top of the search window. You will see a list of interesting and cool places to visit in Second Life. These are spots that have been identified by Linden Research as interesting places to visit.

  4. Step 4

Find something interesting, click on it, and then click the "Teleport" button to go to the location.

  5. Step 5

If you are unable to find something interesting in the Second Life Showcase tab, go back to the Search window and try clicking the Events tab instead.

  6. Step 6

Choose a type of event that you would like to find (e.g. Live Music, Discussion, etc.) from the drop down list on the right side of the screen and then type a search term in the text box. For example, select "Live Music" from the drop down list and then type "blues" in the text box. When you click "search" it will provide you with a list of live blues events coming up in Second Life.

  7. Step 7

Note the time and date of the event. The time listed is "Second Life Time" which corresponds to the time on the East Coast of the United States. The current Second Life time is always shown in the upper right hand corner of your Second Life Viewer. Compare this to your current "real world" time, so you can determine when the event occurs

  8. Step 8

At the time of the event, repeat the previous steps to locate it, click on the event title and then click teleport to go to the event.

  9. Step 9

If you still can't find anything interesting, go to the World Wide Web and your favorite search engine. Search for "Second Life blogs." Look through the blogs and find interesting places to visit in Second Life.

  10. Step 10

If you still can't find anything interesting, try logging into Second Life and looking at other resident's Profile Picks. To do this just log into Second life, right click on any person you see and click "Profile" on the pie menu that comes up. When their profile window come up, click the "Picks" tab at the top of the Profile window. Here you will often find interesting places that this person recommends.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't be afraid to check out anything that looks remotely interesting. You never know what you'll find and if it's not your cup of tea, you can just teleport out.
  • The Second Life website also has a link to "Showcase" at www.secondlife.com. This sometimes has different spots than what is listed in-world.
  • It's sometimes easier to find interesting places to visit in Second Life by using your favorite search engine on the World Wide Web.
  • While in Second Life, ask people for suggestions. Most people are pretty friendly.
