Things You'll Need:
- Jack
- Lug wrench
- Wheel chock
-
Step 1
If your driving and your tire goes flat, try to keep driving to a safe place to pull over. Turn on your emergency flashers, decelerate and avoid any sudden turns. The idea is to maintain control of the vehicle and pull over to a flat, safe area.
-
Step 2
Now that your out of traffic, you can get started. Keep your emergency flashers on, put the car in park and set the emergency brake.
-
Step 3
Remove the lug wrench and jack and a wheel chock if you have one. Take the lug wrench and loosen the wheel lugs just enough so that they are easy to turn. Set the wheel chock if applicable.
-
Step 4
Now jack up the car and remove the lugs all the way. Put the spare tire in place and tighten the lugs as much as you can. The wheel will turn once the lugs begin to get tight, that's ok.
-
Step 5
Now lower the jack until the wheel begins to touch the ground. Then tighten the lugs all the way. The friction between the tire and the ground will keep the wheel from spinning while you tighten the lugs. Once all the lugs are tightened, you can lower the jack all the way. That's it, your done! Put the jack, lug wrench and wheel chock away properly so it will all be there the next time you need it.
